As exciting as travelling is, there is always some boring admin stuff we have to take care of.. I’ll try and make this as pain free as possible.
Let’s focus on Visa’s first. As an Australian travelling to the US -you need to register online using the ESTA website. This allows us to travel as a tourist for 90 days.
I’ve just done a quick check and because I travelled to the US in May this year, it looks like my Visa is still valid until March 2012. You can check if your ESTA visa is still valid or apply for a new one from the ESTA site … quite handy!
We need a visa for the Dominican Republic – not sure if we have to apply for one before we go (as the airport may issue these) but it looks like it’s approx 15 Euro and is valid for 60 days:
We are covered under the Schengen Visa for our travel within Europe. This visa allows for up to 90 days of travelling for the following countries : Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and Spain.
It looks like all of this is sorted when we get to the airports in Europe so we wont need to apply for these while still in Australia. YAY!
Last but not least there’s India…we definitely need a visa to get to India. Am having difficulties trying to find specifics on where we need to apply or how much these visas are. So if anyone knows this information, it would be much appreciated.
Moving onto passports. All passports need to be valid for 6 months after date of travel – which means Kevin needs to get his butt into gear and apply for one! Mines still valid until 2016.
Finally…Vaccinations! We all love getting these…so i’ve tried to narrow it down to the ones that are Strongly recommended as in – we will die if we dont get them done. We’re pretty clear for US, Canada and Europe. Its only really India and the Dominican republic we have to worry about. I’m using the Travel Doctor website to determine what vaccinations we’ll need – use the Travel Health Planner to help you:
India: Looks like we’ll be getting “The Lot” – Tuberculosis (which we have to get now! ARGHH), Hep A, Hep B, Cholera, Malaria, Dengue Fever, Typhoid and Yellow Fever.
Dominican Republic: Is basically a “copy/paste” of India.
So we’re set. Will try and compare what we’ve already had and what we’ll need. Fun times ahead!
